Introduction
Michaële-Andréa Schatt?s practice of painting is a simple, direct and revealing tool. It is also a kind of cavity, of silence and darkness, a space where it is possible to take an inspiration, to breathe.
Her painting is both an outcrop to the surface and a frame-within-the-frame, where the obscurity and shadow twine and cross the representation. Michaële-Andréa Schatt paints the memory of landscapes in free-association, where the subject does not appear as a measure of image and location, but as a combination, an invention of disparate elements. She proceeds with successive recoveries, stacking memory fragments.
Michaële-Andréa Schatt develops a painting work where technical procedures induce turnarounds, inversions, gaps and fragmentations of images. This work as a whole, added to her work on ceramics, intertwines the three concepts of landscape, body and textile.
She was born in 1958.
She works and lives in Montreuil, France and teaches at University Paris VIII.
