Introduction

Although the subject matter of Eric Rondepierre’s work echoes the great changes we have seen in how films are produced, distributed and viewed, it is neither an homage to cinema or an attempt to restore or create a sense of nostalgia for its “aura”. As an artist, he simply drew on this historic situation to travel the fringes of a world whose fragments are now within our reach.

Thus, at the turning point between the 80s and 90s, Eric Rondepierre started working on what he called a “re-shooting”, selecting random images from fictional feature films. For each new series, precise rules were established as he conducted his research. He started working at home using a VCR (Excedents, Annonces), continued with videotapes on an editing table in film libraries and private archives (Annonces, Précis de décomposition, Suites...) and more recently moved to computerized digital material (DSL).

Éric Rondepierre was born in 1950.
He lives and works in Paris.
